History of Harrington Baptist Church
In the late 1950’s Greensboro Baptist Church of Greensboro, MD was praying and working to plant Churches in other towns in Maryland and Delaware. In 1959 they planted Harrington Baptist Church praying that it would be used to reach the local and regional Harrington community with the gospel. In November of 1960 Harrington Baptist Church moved to the vacated Episcopal Church building on Fleming Street in Harrington and graduated from a church plant to a full fledged church by constituting in 1963. By 1965 Harrington Baptist Church, purchased the property of our current location at 111 Liberty Street in Harrington, DE. Through several years of prayer, donations, and construction, the newly constructed (present) building was occupied but unfinished in 1969.
Harrington Baptist Church has faithfully through the years recognized that the church exists for Kingdom growth. As such it holds a value of being a “SENDING” Church. This resulted in HBC planting churches in Magnolia, DE; and, Denton, DE.
While the names and faces of most of our congregation have changed over the years – it is clear that our LORD and Savior has Himself been the planter and sustainer of Harrington Baptist Church and we continue to pray about how we can be used to reach our local community, the region, country, and the world.
